St. Francis Hospital was established by the Swiss Baldegg Sisters with the mission of providing accessible and compassionate healthcare services to local communities.
Hospital Modernization Begins
Dr. Karl Schoepf, together with the Swiss Capuchin Fathers and Baldegg Sisters, initiated a major modernization program to improve healthcare infrastructure and services.
Official Opening of the Modern Hospital
The newly modernized St. Francis Hospital was officially opened, marking a significant milestone in healthcare development one year before Tanzania’s independence.
Regional Referral Hospital Status
On 28 June 2010, the Minister of Health appointed St. Francis Hospital as the Referral Hospital for the entire Morogoro Region, expanding its role in specialized healthcare delivery.
Teaching and Research Expansion
The hospital strengthened its role as a teaching and research institution, supporting SFUCHAS, TTCIH, Ifakara School of Nursing, and research activities with the Ifakara Health Institute.
Growth and Modernization
The hospital continues expanding healthcare infrastructure, introducing specialized services, modern technologies, and advanced patient care programs to meet growing healthcare needs.
